Bombus hypnorum
Bombus hortorum is a medium size bumblebee. Robust body and moderately short head. Black face. Dark brown legs and ventral zone. Pale brown vertex, thorax and both sides of T1. Disk of T1, T2, T3 and T4 are black color. The rest of gaster is white.
Length queens: 16-19 mm.
Lenght males: 13-16 mm.

Females. Gena provided with a patent dorsal furrow. Bombus hypnorum has developed labrum tubercles with defined dotted, but not very dense. Clypeus is flat and nearly square. The dotted of Clypeus is scattered and uneven. Apical impresions are clearly separated and defined. Frons just dotted and, therefore, brighter. In the middle legs, basitarsus is not prickly, although it is slightly sharp. In the hind legs, the basitarsus is short, wide and strong and moderately crosslinked tibia.
Genitalia: narrow sting's case's external projections, dorsaly dilated. Also internal projections are very narrow.
Males. Males have long, thick beard. Flagellomeres recurved at the end.
Genitalia: oval contour. Long, sickle and convergent sagittae, which are sawn in the lower region and with a litlle tooth. Long, and concave sptipes, narrow at the internal region. Small and subtriangular escuamas, with rounded corners. The small volselas have two tips.
Bombus hypnorum is distributed by the Palearctic region, except in United Kingdom.
In the Iberian Peninsula is located in mountains range of Ancares and the Pyrenees (between 750-1600m).

Bombus hypnorum features nest in wooden cavities of very diverse origin, in hollow trees, abandoned bird nests or below slope of land, covered with moss.
Flight period: April to late September.
Bombus hypnorum shows preference for forest, meadows and pastures, even in gardens and roadsides. Plants types: Rosaceae, Fabaceae and Liliaceae.
